What's A Word?

I love that she touched on mediation today! I think it is a fine art that is somewhat lost in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, not to mention, as Donna said, the world has put their own spin on it and made it very "new agey". I agree with her when she said "we need to take back mediation! It was god's idea and his gift to us as his children".

Since I believe mediation is a lost art, I gonna give you a cool idea to help you dig deeper.

Today Tip ~

Customize Your Verse

Using our memory verse, pick out certain words and then look them up in a Thesauruses. The Thesauruses will give you all kinds of different words for the one you are looking up and give you a new spin on it!

Example:
Noble - exalted, grand, magnificent, majestic, splendid, stately

Now re-write the verse using the word(s) you like in place of "noble"

"A wife of splendid and majestic character who can find?"

I know this will take up some of your time, but here again it will prove to be a wise investment of your time! If I asked you what you watched on TV last night, you may not even remember, but mediating on the Word will plant it in our hearts!!!! So skip the 1/2 of news or that weekly sitcom and customize your verse instead!

Have fun with it. If you want to share your new verse with us feel free. It might be fun to see what we all come up with!

Have a wonderful day~

Here's mine...
A wife of grandiose nature who can find? She is desirable far more then rubies. Her husband has complete trust in her and requires nothing of value.

Today's topic hit home with me as I know that I can read the bible and may get to meditate on a fraction of what I read before other things must be done. Taking a little more time with God's words is just what I need and the chores or studying won't suffer if I take a few more moments with God's words.

This is what I got:
A wife of majestic and splendid integrity, who can find? she is valued far above precious jewels. Her husband has abounding faith in her and lacks nothing of significance.
I was really convicted about meditation today. I tend to read the word once or twice and then hope to remember it throughout the day, but today I learned that meditation is something that God has called me to. That is how I hide his word in my heart and only once his word is hidden in my heart can I truly wage the war against sin!

I was really afraid when I read that I had to memorize the Word! I am always amazed that my children can memorize long poems... but me? I have the hardest time remembering what I had for breakfast.

I gave my fear of memorization up to God this morning during TAG... and it seems that He heard me! While I was filling up my tank ($4.40 a gallon... yikes!) I was able to recite this weeks verse :)

A wife of dignified character who can find her? Todays topic made me think of the time when speaking to someone and suddenly words come from mouth that I didn't know I knew the answer. Thinking about today I realized they came not only from God but from studying and knowing His word. I have to admit its been a long time since I meditated on his word. I'm also glad thet she talked about the stigma that is now attached to meditating.

Don't feel like you have to re-write your verse in order to place a comment today. If you have something to say about today's lesson, jump right in!!

Although, you can see how much fun it is to personalized your verse. Good job girls!

Before this study began, my daily study was going through Kings...now if you remember much about this book, it doesn't really scream out MEDITATE on me. Who wants to meditate on crazy kings of old not following God's commands? But after reading this morning, I thought of how I could've meditated on this aspect of the Word more, and I realized how I could have managed my QT better and meditated on this part of His word. God demonstrated so much of His grace in Kings, and I seemed to miss that fact, until now. For anyone who has difficulty going through books and meditating on the Word that doesn't directly speak of happy times or good people (like me!), make it your goal to discover God's message to you and meditate on His word through that message; it's a challenge! It sure was for me; and I'm glad that, through today's study, God was able to show me how His Word speaks volumes when you least expect it.

I thought about how much of what is in our head comes directly out of our mouths without much editing in-between. My reactions and comments aren't very godly when I am thinking in my usual human terms. However, when I am thinking about God, my reactions and comments to others are transformed.

Case in point - I started a new job last week, and there is a newly hired gentleman who the 3 more experienced ladies like to poke fun at and gossip about his behaviors. When I think of the things he's doing that really bug the others, I feel conflicted, because I'd like for him to change his ways, but I don't know how to help the situation. However, when I am remembering to be a gentle Proverbs 31 woman and think of him as a beloved child of God, I feel so much more accepting of him and I am able to communicate a peaceful spirit to the other women.

Our tongues can build others up, or tear them down. How easy it is to fall into the world's way of viewing things! Hopefully, reading Scripture in the morning will help me with my mindset to deal with this personality conflict at work.

As I was meditating on verses 10-11, I was thinking "I bet if you asked my husband directly, he would say he already has full confidence in me." As I was feeling rather comfortable in that thought, I remembered the beginning of Donna's book and how God is my heavenly husband. I suddenly felt like I had so much more work to do if God himself were going to have full confidence in me! It was very convicting!!!

My husband, Scott, knows I'm doing the study and asked me this morning how it's going. I was glad to recite the memorization verse for him. Perhaps you can also have someone in your family occasionally "quiz" you. The Lord may even use this interaction to plant his Word in that other person, as well!
