Day 16

Boy, can I just go to bed and wake up next week when she is done talking about harmful pantry and eating habits? I guess not, so I will do the next best thing and take my own advise!!

For years I have been telling gals to take baby steps with their TAG. Start small, don't get overwhelmed, give Him 10minutes a day and so on....so I will follow my own advise here and take baby steps concerning my eating habits!

Yesterday, I told you I would resolved to cut out my Diet Pepsi's, not a huge sacrifice, but a step in the right direction.

This week offers some tough reading (and I don't think I'm alone here) so I just want to encourage you by saying - Take baby steps!!!!

Today Tip ~

Hang in there! If a 10 day diet of veges and water is overwhelming, give up one thing that is harmful to you. Baby steps!!!

If you can't think of anything to give up , ask Him!!! Then let us hear what it is you are giving up for the next 10 days so we can pray for each other!

Hang tough girls and give Him the glory~
Nola

Wow. As I read this morning, I thought "no way". I know myself and I know that doing this would be far too overwhelming. I am totally on board with taking steps to change my habits, though. I have decided to only drink water (I'm with you, nola. I drink WAY too much diet coke) and to not eat anything sweet. Not quite as radical as the "veggies and water only" diet, but still it will be a challenge; Especially since we are going to Hume lake this weekend and they have the best milkshakes ever! But I will be strong! :)

I am weaning myself odd of coffee. I usually have 2-3 large cups in a day. Today and yesterday I had just one...tomorrow 1/2 regular and 1/2 decaf and so on. The Lord has beem convicting me about coffee for about two years. Now that I have accountability to a group and we are all praying for one another, with God's help it will be possible this time.

Our family always eats lots of vegies but I will cut way down on protein these next 10 days. I did have a bowl of cheerios with fresh peaches this morning...my absolute favorite summer breakfast!

I definitely need to eat more fruits and veggies during the day. My husband is very faithful about eating right, and it helps that he will eat anything. I can be creative when I cook, which makes it a lot of fun!

I tend to eat carbs first, followed by protein, and then fruits and vegetables. With God's help, my goal over the course of this study is to reverse this order.

Since we are blessed in this country to have so many food choices and so much abundance, we will all need lots of prayer to eat more simply and moderately.

We have family living with us right now and they only eat organic foods. They are moderate with their protein and sugar intake, too. We have already felt the call to higher standards with food! One thing that really helped with the kids was shopping at Trader Joes. TJ waffles are whole grain and high in fiber, their cookies are made with natural ingredients and their pop tarts and yogurts are all organic. My kids haven't complained at all and I've rid our house of high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils and refined flour. They even go for the healthier chips, crackers, cereal, granola bars and nitrite-free bacon. I also save money there! Maybe this tip will help some of you moms with little ones get a jump start on replacing the "non-foods" with healthy look-alikes :) Heather

okay, i started out wanting to do the vegies and water thing. i have always drank lots of water, not a big soda drinker, and i love vegies. well i got to work and got busy and ate nothing all day except some sample cookies from the bakery on the run at that, and by the way this is what i usually do everyday. so i think my goal should be to eat something for breakfast and something for lunch. dinner has never been an issue having a husband and 2 boys, but starving all day is probably not a good thing. so pray for me because i have been eating this way for a long time. here's to all of us on the road to healthier eating habits!!!!!!!

take care,

love ya all,

Hi Ladies,
I know this is not on topic but I need your prayers for my brother Jimmy who has lung cancer. He has taken a turn for the worse and I am leaving to go to New York tomorrow morning. I've spoken with him about the Lord many times, but please pray that God would give me time alone with him so that I can talk with him again and please pray that his heart would be open to the love that God has for him and the gift of eternal life through His Son. Thank you!

I think Nola is right on about the baby steps. It helps to pick one or two things and focus on eliminating those.

I have really missed fruit. I have been on the South Beach diet for 2 weeks, and there's no fruit during that phase. Now I'm on the 3rd week where I can add in the carbs in fruit or grains, but I'm scared that I'll overdo it. I've just had a tortilla or some oatmeal thus far. Balance and moderation is the key.

My daughter was cleaning out the refrigerator for me when the earthquake hit. She closed the fridge quickly, which was a good thing. Don't know if she ever went back to it after all of the excitement.

I started the veggie/water thing early because of family coming in town this week. I am on day 10 today. I drink about a pot of coffee each day, and a few diet sodas in between. I did not get any headaches from not having any coffee, praise be to God for that! I am hoping this will help me break away from depending on coffee to get me through the day. I have a sweet tooth and really don't eat many veggies. I want to try her method to see if it helps me have more energy. I am a low energy person and always have been, no matter how much I exercise, weigh, eat, etc. Maybe detoxifying my body will help. So far I feel the same. It hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. I made a pot of split pea soup today and had it all day. Some mornings I had cut potatoes with onions and garlic. If anyone feels lead to do the veggie/ water diet, I encourage you to do so. It went by pretty fast.

OK here we go...I am going to try to change all my snacks during the day to veggies...and only drink water instead of coffee and sodas...I have been telling myself that I needed to cut out the snacks and now God & Donna are letting me know that it is time.

I'm a little behind this week. I've been very tired and cannot seem to catch up. Its funny that this week is about our eating habits. I know that lately this has been a huge struggle for me and I'm taking baby steps to improve my habits, especially since I'm getting older I find it a lot harder to lose weight compared to how fast I put it on. I gave up drinking Cokes several months ago and has done wonders. I don't drink enough water, but mainly that's because I just don't drink a lot anyway. I already love veggies, but have decided to put more fruit into my diet. In addition I made a decision on Sunday before reading this week's topices that I needed to control my sugar intake. So long story short, I gave myself a strict allowance of only 5 pieces of candy that I'm allowed on any one day. So far, its been a good process and I'm eating less candy, less often.
